Dear Maria,

I just read the news in Science about the parliament bill to reorganize the Russian Academy of Science; if this will pass the parliament it would be tragic. Some reforms are certainly necessary; you also were not entirely happy with the funding and decision making system, but the organisation must stay independent from the government and the politics.
